MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration model introduced by the Australian Government. It aims to formalise the relationship between you, your general practice, and your preferred GP. This stronger connection has been shown to improve health outcomes and allows for additional government funding to be directed to your healthcare provider to deliver the care you need.
You must have a valid Medicare card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran Card.
You must have had 2 face-to-face appointments with the same practice in the previous 24 months (or 1 for remote locations).
Your chosen practice must be registered in MyMedicare.
Exemptions apply for people facing hardship, including those experiencing domestic and family violence and homelessness.
Patients will register with their regular general practice and select their preferred GP at the practice. This registration will not prevent you from accessing care from other practices, but some benefits like the longer MBS telehealth items and new aged care services will be linked to your registered practice.
You can complete your registration in one of the following ways:
Start the process in your Medicare online services (Medicare Online Account or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app). A staff member at our clinic can then accept the registration.
The clinic staff can begin your registration, and you will then complete the process and provide your consent using your Medicare online account or the Express Plus Medicare mobile application.
You can fill out a registration form at our clinic and sign it to provide your consent. We will then enter your details into the MyMedicare system to complete the process.
Please note that registration for a child under 14 years must be completed at the practice. Young people aged 14 to 17 can register without a parent or guardian.

Access to longer MBS-funded telephone consultations with your usual general practice.
More regular GP visits and better care planning for people living in residential aged care homes.
Longer bulk-billed telehealth consults for children under 16 and concession card holders.
Improved connections to appropriate care in general practice for people with chronic conditions.
Yes, MyMedicare does not tie you to a particular GP. You can change your preferred GP within your registered practice at any time. You can also register with a new practice if you meet the eligibility requirements and the practice is already registered in MyMedicare.
MyMedicare is a registration system, while My Health Record is a separate system that holds your clinical health information. Your MyMedicare registration will appear on your My Health Record so that other health professionals know who your regular care provider is, but you can choose to opt out of this.
